Sale Police Arrest Repeat Offender Accused of Targeting VTC Drivers

A 31-year-old man with a long history of theft and drug-related offenses was arrested early Friday morning in Sale, following a series of violent assaults against ride-hailing drivers.
Police say the suspect had already crossed paths with law enforcement several times before his latest alleged crimes.
According to early findings, the man and an accomplice devised a calculated plan to ambush VTC drivers.
They reportedly used a mobile app to order a ride in Sidi Bouknadel, a rural area near Sale.
Once the driver arrived, the suspects allegedly forced him out of the vehicle under threat, then drove the car into the city.
Their escape took a chaotic turn when they crashed into several parked cars in Salé. Before police could intervene, the two men abandoned the damaged vehicle and fled on foot.
The same night, the pair reportedly carried out another attack.
Using the same method, they ordered another ride and this time, police say, assaulted the driver with a bladed weapon. They took off with the vehicle and a sum of money.
A few hours later, police arrested one of the suspects in an advanced state of intoxication. The operation led to the recovery of both stolen cars and the weapons believed to have been used in the assaults.
The man is now in custody as the investigation continues under the supervision of the public prosecutor.
Authorities say they have identified the second suspect and are working to bring him in.
